Recipe Card Challenge ~ February

The starter kit for this month’s recipe card challenge at theStudio is in my store. This will be a freebie for those who participated the month before; others can purchase it for a low price. Reminder: The papers in this mini kit are sized 4 x 6, and the elements are smaller to fit the paper size. These are just the right size to create brag book pages, too!

The colors chosen for this blog train are the perfect choice! I had the song “Our Primary Colors” going through my head every time I sat down to design something else for my mini kit: “Red is for courage to do what is right, yellow for service from morning till night. Blue is for truth in our thought and our deed…” Good decision on the theme and colors, Melia!

I decided to focus on general use elements for this mini kit. Colors of Christmas Freebies…

I’m trying to get caught up now that the hustle and bustle of Christmas is over and before I go back to work next week. Later this week, I’ll post some layouts made by my CT members using my “Colors of Christmas” kit.

Today, I want to share a few limited-time freebies I made with this kit. There are 2 clusters I designed for my December recipe card ~ the only difference is the placement of the heart and star so the cluster can work either vertically or horizontally. Picture a Christmas…

Merry Christmas, everyone! I always look forward to this time of year and all the things that come along with it – spending time with those I love, thinking of ways to give more than I get, and most important to my family: remembering the Savior as we celebrate His birth and life.

One of my favorite Primary songs this time of year is “Picture a Christmas.” I’ve created a little mini kit to go along with the first verse; next year, I’ll expand this into a full-size kit. Black Friday Doorbusters…

Have you ever started a family tradition and then when you’re older (and tired-er) wish you hadn’t? That’s how I’m feeling this morning about Black Friday shopping! Actually, even though I didn’t want to go, I’m glad we did. We got what we were looking for, shared a few laughs, had breakfast together, and now I’m going to go try and take a little nap!

I wanted to quickly tell you about the Black Friday deals at theStudio. There are a bunch of kits currently selling for $1 – and then at 12:00 noon Eastern Time, there will be a new batch. Creative Kids ~ Boys and Girls Kits

One of my treasured memories from when my kids were little was seeing the “art” they designed and the ways they shared their creativity. These days, I love when one of my Primary kids colors me a picture or helps draw something when we play Pictionary or are learning a new song. Every child is an artist ~ these 2 kits were designed to capture and record some of their precious works of art.

Please note: only the 3 characters in each kit are boy/girl specific; everything else was designed to be totally interchangeable. The papers and elements in both kits coordinate with each other.

Walk With Gratitude ~ LDS Blog Train

For this month’s LDS blog train, I instantly thought of Thanksgiving and the gratitude and love I feel for the family members and friends I share this special holiday with. It is always a LOT of work to get ready to host dinner for 35-40 people at my house, but also fun and rewarding. I’m lucky and blessed to have such special people in my life.

Everyday Elegance ~ STS Blog Train

I really like this month’s colors, but I must admit that the title threw me for a bit. Let’s face it, the most elegant thing that happens at my house is when we use real plates instead of paper, so “everyday elegance” is like a foreign language to me. Mystery Machine ~ Blog Train

I intended to have more for this kit, but shortly after working on these papers last Saturday, my computer totally crashed and would not boot up. Thankfully, we found a wonderful computer tech who was able to retrieve most of my files off the hard drive and hook me up with an awesome new computer since everything on my old one is now toast! It’s another important reminder to back up frequently and not necessarily rely on online backup providers – Mozy hadn’t backed up my files for 14 days!

Grandma’s Farm Add-On and Bundle Savings

I’ve been spending a little time revamping some of my older kits – adding more elements, updating the existing papers and adding some new ones, and changing to my new preview and file naming convention. These 2 kits coordinate nicely with each other, making it easy to mix and match the papers and elements in both kits. I intentionally did not make the papers too “birthday specific” so you can use them and plenty of the elements for non-birthday layouts and other craft projects, too. And last, I designed two paper add-on packs. The solid papers are lightly embossed to give some additional depth and texture to your pages. The patterned papers were made using existing papers from the kits above and a cool program I recently bought called Repper. It’s hard to believe that 2 years ago, I was a very nervous competitor hoping to win a designer position at theStudio (then called Stone Accents Studio). It was so fun last year to have the contest behind me and watch all the incredible talent come out for this annual event, and now here we are again! This contest is for everyone – rather you’re just getting started designing or have lots of experience! The first week’s challenge is posted – you can read more here. Let the Little Children Come ~ LDS Blog Train

This month’s Stuff to Scrap blog train (see post below) is focused on girls. I decided to focus this LDS blog train mini kit more on boys.

I loved reading bedtime stories to my kids when they were little, and I still love telling stories to my "Primary kids” each Sunday. One of my favorite stories about Jesus is the one that inspired this month’s theme – when He told His disciples to “let the little children come” and He took the time to talk to them and bless them (Mark 10:13-16). And now you know the specific inspirations for my contribution.

I actually had a template put together for this blog train, but when I got home from work tonight, I couldn’t find it! I looked and looked until I had to leave for an Eagle Scout Court of Honor (congrats, Jackson!). I finally gave up looking when I got home and shifted gears to design this mini kit. Affinity Poster…

I’m working on a kit that will be released in the next few days and decided to give you a little sneak peek by recreating my own version of a poster I saw years ago. 27 years ago, I embarked on a wonderful journey called motherhood! Thank goodness Megan was my firstborn – she made being a mom so fun and rewarding that it was an easy decision to have more children. I found a great poem about first-born children that perfectly says how we felt much better than I could – it says:

Oh, how we planned and waited for the moment of your birth.

Of all our little miracles, you were the very first.

The first to hold, to raise, to love, and fill our days with fun,

From your first tooth to your first steps, we counted memories one by one.

The years passed by so quickly, and soon we realized,

Dear first born, you were growing up, right before our eyes.

We have cherished every moment and we wanted you to know,

You have brought real joy into our lives, and we love you so!

Thanks for being a great example, sister, daughter, and friend! I hope this year is your very best yet! And the next time you go to Disneyland, I’m going with you! I love you, Megan!

First up, Happy Father’s Day! I sure am grateful for the wonderful men in my life, especially my husband, son, and son-in-law! I love you all!

Surf & Swim Kit

There is so much satisfaction every time I finish a kit, and I’ll often think “this is my favorite” ~ until I finish the next one. I’m pretty sure this kit is going to remain one of my all-time favorites EVER! I love the bright colors and the fun elements, and I especially love that it reminds me of warmer, sunny days that are just around the corner. I hope you’ll like this one, too!

“Capture the Moment” Layout Contest…

Beginning today at theStudio, we are kicking off a new layout contest that will continue each week in June. Here’s a quick rundown of the contest:

Monday morning (Memorial Day) there will be a LO assignment for all interested scrappers. Anyone can join. It's that simple.
The first week will be any kit of your choice, our assignment. Again, that simple.
This is elimination style (voting is by Studio Designers & Admin only).
All contestants going on to Weeks 2, 3, 4 and 5 will receive a FREE Studio kit to work with.
One Grand Prize Winner takes all on July 1, 2011.
All assignments will be given on Monday. Due on Thursday for the entire month of June.
Weekends free!

The greatest joy and most treasured blessings in my life come from being mom to my 3 incredible children. Today is Amber’s birthday, and I just wanted to publicly say how much I love her before we head over there to see her in person to celebrate! Amber, you are an amazing woman, wife, teacher, employee, neighbor, sister, daughter, and friend. I’m so grateful Heavenly Father trusted me to give you life, and even more grateful for the life you have led and the beautiful person you’ve become ~ both inside and out. Thanks for suffering through my inadequacies and remaining one of my best friends. I love you!

For all the young moms out there: slow down and take the time to enjoy every messy, noisy, tiring second ~ because all too soon your kids will be grown and those moments will become distant memories.

My main motivation was this: if you’re like me, you collect lots of freebies and then they sit unused on your computer. I wanted to see what you could do with my kit.

Mother Dear, I Love You So…

I intended to have this kit done for Mother’s Day, but I injured my back on my last business trip and between doctor visits, physical therapy, trying to work, and deal with the pain, I’m behind on everything! I was determined to finish this today, and I’m really happy with how it all came together.

One of my best “CU” investments was buying a license for Cheryl Seslar’s clipart ~ I love her work! The characters in this kit provided the color palette. And the inspiration and title come from a Primary song I learned when I was a kid. It’s dedicated to the great women who have “mothered” me and my children and who inspire me to be a better mom myself.

Here’s a preview of the full kit that’s now available in my store ~ it will be 25% off until May 31.

Pretty In Pink ~ Elements

I was so excited to work on these elements, especially after seeing all the other wonderful contributions by others ~ and then the messages started about the pirate sites and individuals stealing again. It’s so discouraging and disappointing and dishonest! I barely finished these before the posting deadline last night, and only because I truly appreciate and value my loyal blog followers and friends.

I don’t know if the watermark on my previews will prevent thieves from posting my stuff elsewhere, but it’s all I can think of if I’m going to continue offering freebies. In the meantime, here’s my preview. If interested, click here to get to the download link posted at theStudio.

Spring Fling Palette…

Yesterday, I posted about the Spring Fling Design Contest going on this month at theStudio. It’s open to everyone – and there are already a LOT of great paper packs available for download. The previews for theStudio designers are separate from everyone else since we are not eligible for the prizes – we’re just playing along for fun. This picture is my color palette inspiration. I found several others I really liked, but I kept coming back to this one. This is a similar palette to my “Neapolitan Mint” kit, but I don’t care! I love this combination! I need to finish my preview and get the paper pack uploaded; check back later tonight if you’re interested.

I’m a little late posting this, but there is still plenty of time to check out the fun things going on at theStudio this month. Click here or on the the picture to take you to the main forum.

One of the things I’m going to participate in is the “Spring Fling Design Contest.” If you’ve wanted to try your hand at designing – or just want to snag some great freebies throughout the month – check out this link. Several of the store designers (including me) are going to participate for fun. We’re not eligible for the prizes, but you are.

Each Week there are 3 Winners:
